All the Details on How Kim Kardashian Triumphed in a Legal Battle Against This Super Famous Fast-Fashion Company

A couple of months ago, Kim Kardashian West filed a legal complaint against a British multi-channel retailer Missguided for illegally posting her OOTD pictures on their sites, and selling a copycat version of her outfits.

Kim Kardashian’s Trademark

Kim Kardashian won the lawsuit she filed against Missguided last February

Kim is one of the most-influential female celebrities in Hollywood, and she’s very meticulous in choosing the brands she will endorse. Her mother and manager Kris Jenner said in an interview that they receive several offers from different companies on a daily basis, but they don’t just sign any brands regardless of the amount offered. They only associate their names on brands they feel that won’t stain their elite persona.

That is why Kim was furious when she saw her photos on a website without her consent. Missguided had posted several pictures of her as if she was representing the brand. When people used to click Kim’s photos, another page would then pop up where they can buy the clothes the socialite was wearing. What’s even worse is that the apparel isn’t original. They even copied some custom-tailored designer clothes Kim flaunted on some red carpet events.

Legal Battle

The fast-fashion company failed to respond to the fashion mogul’s lawsuit filed in February, so Judge Virginia A. Philips of the United States District Court for the Central District of California ordered Misguided a legal settlement worth $2.7 million for illegally using Kim Kardashian’s trademark for their own financial benefits.

Although the company is based in the United Kingdom, the court order was specifically against Missguided US and not against Missguided UK, based on the reports.

In addition to the default judgment, Missguided will have to pay another $59,600 on legal costs to Kim Kardashian in association with the unauthorized use of her trademark and right of publicity suit she submitted about five months ago.

Television and Fashion Career

Keeping Up with the Kardashians first aired on October 14, 2007

Aside from her brand endorsements, Kim has stared in several television and films such as Disaster Movie, Dancing with the Stars, How I Met Your Mother, Beyond the Break, etc. She also has a reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians together with her siblings Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and Kylie Jenner.

In June of this year, she started a shapewear brand called Kimono. After receiving negative feedbacks and being criticized for disrespecting the historical significance of the traditional outfit to the Japanese, Kim announced that she would change her brand name.

Japanese Trade Minister Hiroshige Seko sent their representatives and arranged a meeting with the US Patent and Trademark officials regarding this issue.
