Russell Crowe Purchased a Very Random Item from Leonardo DiCaprio for $30 Million

People are well-aware of the rule “don’t drink and drive”, but the Gladiator actor Russell Crowe seems to have modified this safety regulation to “don’t drink and shop”.

$30 Million Dinosaur Skull

Russell Crowe bought a dinosaur skull from Leonardo DiCaprio for $30 million and sold it in an auction for $65 million

While enjoying some vodka drink with his friend Leonardo DiCaprio some time in 2008, Crowe impulsively purchased a dinosaur skull from him for an estimated amount of $30 million.

In an interview with Howard Stern on Sirius XM, he confessed that he was a little light-headed because of the alcohol when he made the decision.

DiCaprio was looking for a buyer for the relic so that he can buy the other one that he saw on the market, and he generously offered to snap up the reptile’s head.

It’s for the Kids!

During that time, Crowe said his children drew a huge interest with dinosaurs, so he took home the skull, and put it on the playroom. Ten years later, he sold it for $65, 000 in the auction Russell Crowe: The Art of Divorce to fund his divorce from Danielle Spencer.

There were 225 other items in the bidding, including some of the props the actor used in his movies, and he accumulated over $3.7 million fortune out of it.

65-Million-Year-Old Mosasaur

Sotheby’s auction house discovered that the skull belongs to the family of the monitor lizard like the Komodo Dragon. It was a colossal serpentine marine reptile called Mosasaur from the Late Cretaceous Period, which is about sixty-five million years ago.

It’s definitely not a toy for the children because it was known to be one of the intimidating hunters back on its days. The skull apparently has a double-hinged jaw allowing the dinosaur to devour its prey in one piece.
